Norwich City Under-21s were knocked out of the Premier League Cup, losing 3-2 away to Chelsea in the Round of 16.

The game's first chance led to the first goal, as Chelsea's Ronnie Stutter tapped in from close range after Deivid Washington's ball across goal.

Norwich's first chance of the game fell to Ken Aboh, who did well to wriggle away from his marker, only to be denied by a fantastic save from Teddy Sharman-Lowe.

But it would be Chelsea who would score the next goal, as Washington surged forward and chipped the ball over Dan Barden to double the Blues' lead.

The Canaries did create chances to get back into the game. Kellen Fisher fired over after a good passing move across the pitch.

Stutter almost added a third for Chelsea in the opening half, but Fisher did well to deflect the effort out for a corner.

Aboh was Norwich's main threat in the first half, and surged forward and saw another shot saved well by Sharman-Lowe.

Pedro Lima forced Sharman-Lowe into another save, with the Brazilian striking from distance.

Norwich would have their goal just before the break. Gabe Forsyth's corner was headed on at the front post by Lima, and Liam Gibbs met it at the back post to fire in.

It was a fast start from Norwich in the second half, as Aboh raced to the byline and cut his pass back to Adian Manning, who saw his effort saved by Sharman-Lowe.

Barden had to be alert to react to Washington's attempted chip, saving well.

After a quiet second half, Norwich were level after 70 minutes. Finley Welch's shot was deflected into the path of Errol Mundle-Smith who found the bottom corner.

Welch almost put Norwich ahead as he broke forward and fired goalwards, only to see his effort palmed away by Sharman-Lowe.

But it would be Chelsea who would go in front. Washington added his second of the game, firing in after a low-driven corner.

Barden almost found an equaliser as he came up for a late corner, but his header was over the bar.

Alan Neilson's side return to Premier League 2 action on Friday night, welcoming Middlesbrough to the Lotus Training Centre.
