Head of Grounds
Location: Lotus Training Centre/Carrow Road
Contract and Hours: 37.5 hours per week, as and when required
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum, plus Company Benefits
Reporting to: Head of Operations & Projects
Norwich City Football Club are excited to announce an opportunity available for a dedicated and resilient individual to join our Grounds Team, located within the newly built Grounds Building at the Lotus Training Centre. This role will entail maintaining our excellent state of the art facilities and 9 playing surfaces across Norwich City Football Club sites, including both the Lotus Training Centre and Carrow Road Stadium. The role of Head of Grounds is fundamental in the ongoing growth of the Grounds Team. The Head of Grounds will be responsible for overseeing a fantastic and dedicated existing team of 8 members of staff, supporting the day-to-day functions whilst working strategically with the Head of Operations & Projects in order to develop the department.
We are looking for someone who has great leadership skills and enjoys being involved with the day-to-day operations where needed, ensuring the maintenance of the Club’s standard in relation to quality and supporting the team in growing the progressive image of the department and Club. The successful applicant will take pride in their work and achievements, demonstrate excellent communication skills and act as a role model in adhering to best practice at all times.
Key tasks/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the management of the day-to-day organisation and operations of the Grounds Team, including but not limited to the preparation of all playing surfaces applying fertilisers, spraying all surfaces, equipment and machinery maintenance and repairs.
- Ensuring all pitches and other relevant facilities are maintained to a high standard and ready to use when required and being involved in the day-to-day operations where needed
- Developing and implementing pitch maintenance programmes, considering cultural, chemical and fertiliser requirements
- Full understanding of industry developments in equipment technologies, fertilisers and chemicals
- Liaise with the First Team and Academy to provide pitch allocations for matches and training
- Work in a health and safety conscious manner, ensuring all machinery is kept in a safe and secure position
- Be responsible for the health, safety and welfare of all customers, contractors and colleagues on site whilst grounds work is being carried out
- Be responsible for keeping appropriate records for best practise and regulatory compliance
- Meet contractors working on site on arrival, ensuring all documentation is competed and ensuring work is carried out in a satisfactory manner
- Liaise with the Head of Operations & Projects of any remedial work or renovation work required, highlighting work which may financially benefit the Club
- To identify and develop the training requirements of the team and work with the Club Training and Development provider to enable delivery
Qualifications and Experience:
- NVQ Level 3 in Sports Turf Management is essential
- Achieved or working towards NVQ Level 3 Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Horticulture is essential
- NTPC PA1, PA2 and PA6 Spraying Certificates or working towards is essential
- Experience of working in a sporting environment is essential
- Experience and knowledge of all types of machinery
- Experience in managing and leading a team is essential
- A full driving licence is essential
