An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced candidate to join the data and innovation department at Norwich City Football Club in the role of Performance Data Scientist.

This is an excellent role for someone who is forward thinking, proactive and hardworking to deliver innovative solutions and actionable insights with data to help the club make evidence-based decisions.

Key tasks/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the development of statistical models and/or machine learning relating to match and training performance and player recruitment
  • Lead the development of bespoke analytics for key stakeholders and performance practitioners
  • Manipulate, analyse, and understand complex data sets relating to physical, technical, and tactical performance and player recruitment
  • Assist in the set-up and maintenance of data processes and front-end visualisation
  • Lead short-term and long-term data driven projects to identify current trends in elite football
  • To act in a manner that supports the Club’s Values of Growth, Integrity, Belonging, Resilience, Pride and Commitment

Essential:

  • BSc in a quantitative discipline, this may include Statistics, Economics, Applied Mathematics or related subjects
  • Experience in statistical modelling techniques, with a focus on data manipulation within elite level sport
  • High level proficiency in Python or R/Shiny programming languages
  • High level proficiency in Power BI
  • Proficiency in database tools/queries such as MySQL and experience with AWS products
  • Experience of managing large datasets

Desirable:

  • Masters Data Science / Analytics or related quantitative discipline
  • Knowledge of football performance data products such as Statsbomb, Opta, Skill Corner & Second Spectrum
