Three deserving City supporters have been chosen as finalists for this year’s Michelle Dack Fan of the Season award for the 2022/23 season.
The award is once again dedicated to Canaries superfan Michelle Dack, who sadly passed away in January 2018.
Michelle attended many Norwich City matches over the years, including 908 consecutive games by the time of her last match at Portman Road in October 2017. Her commitment to the Canaries epitomises everything that the award embodies.
The club received over 100 nominations for the Fan of the Season Award, and a Norwich City judging panel had the difficult task of whittling the nominations down to the following three finalists:
Clay Steggles
Clay is this year’s youngest shortlisted nominee, aged just eight years old. Nominated by BBC Radio Norfolk and his mum, Clay’s love for Norwich City has never wavered, despite the setbacks he has endured throughout his life.
In April 2022, he underwent spinal surgery (SDR) to help improve his movements due to his cerebral palsy. Clay had to learn to walk again completely from scratch.
Just 10 months after surgery, Clay proudly walked onto the Carrow Road pitch as a mascot for our fixture against Burnley.
Clay always has a smile on his face and says his love for the club has got him through any challenge he has had to face.
Nicol Nicholls
Nicol is a #HerGameToo ambassador and a matchday volunteer for Norwich City Women. Her passion and advocation for the women’s game is greatly appreciated by supporters and those at the club.
Her efforts were noticed by Her Game Too earlier in the season and she was consequently selected to be an ambassador, representing Norwich City in the campaign.
She regularly attends The Nest and will often be the one to greet fans at the door at the ticket desk.
Nicol is also a member of the Canaries Trust board and is often helping with any events they hold, including organising food bank collections.
Cillian O’Grady
Cillian travels to home and away fixtures, even though he is based in Dublin, Ireland. He is truly committed to the club and travels more than any known fan to watch the team, having done so regularly for the past two years.
The Irish Canary Supporters panellist also attends the Carrow Road supporters' meetings in-person.
Another reason for Cillian’s place in the final three is that two of his many nominations for the award came from Amanda Sheehy, the mother of the 2021/22 Fan of the Season winner, Amber, and the runner-up from last year, Jill Dann. Both expressed Cillian’s dedication and commitment to the club make him a deserved candidate.
