Norwich City head coach David Wagner made a visit to The Nest on Wednesday evening to join the Community Sports Foundation's Duncan's Club session.
‘Duncan’s Club’ brings together people with dementia on a weekly basis to chat, reminisce, and stay active, and the Foundation is appealing for donations to ensure they can provide this regular support for local people with dementia, for free.
The project was put into place and named in memory of former club captain Duncan Forbes, who sadly passed away from dementia in 2019.
Wagner spent the evening with the participants creating a 'best-of-all time Norwich City starting XI', playing table tennis and chatting with fans about their Norwich City memories.
Jo Wallnough from the Community Sports Foundation helps to run the club every week. She said: "We are the only session in the area that meets on a weekly basis and, to my knowledge, we are one of the only dementia support groups that incorporates the physical element.
"So, it's lovely to see an 87-year-old man playing table tennis in there, something he wouldn't normally do.
"It's been amazing to have David in with us today. The smiles on some of the faces of the people in there when he walked in were just huge."
The newly appointed head coach then had a tour of the facilities at The Nest to finish his visit. Talking about Duncan's club, he said: "I was very pleased to get the invitation to come down here. It's great to see how tight we are, Norwich City Football Club, with the community.
"I enjoyed hearing about their memories of the club and the knowledge they have of the last 40, 50 years is incredible.
"It's great what they have here, a lot of football clubs would be proud of the facilities at The Nest, but it's not just about that. The people I have met today give this facility real life, you can see the staff here work for the Foundation with passion and with their heart."
The visit also ties in to the EFL's week of action.
