David Wagner reflected on a 1-1 draw against AZ Alkmaar at the VV Dirkshorn stadium and discussed his thoughts on pre-season so far.
"It was a solid performance, I think we got out of this test exactly what we wanted; a big group of players to get 80 minutes under their belts. They had to work very hard.
"We played against a very, very good side, everyone knows they were in the semis of the Conference League and last season their Under-19s won the Champions League, so a very good side, but we really were competitive for 60 minutes.
"Defensively we look very sharp, very solid, we have good commitment, short distances and we limited them. They had two good chances but they were made by us and we scored a good goal and had two very good opportunities as well.
"For 60 minutes, it was a very good performance in both areas, in ball possession and out of ball possession and then the last 30 minutes, in ball possession we struggled, we have to be honest. But in this period you have to fight to keep the ball out of the net and this is what the players have done, so I am very pleased and everyone is healthy after the game."
Ashley Barnes scored his fourth goal of the pre-season campaign, as his effort put the Canaries in front after five minutes.
"Ash is a very experienced professional and a very good character. He is very football intelligent and has a very good understanding for the game. He is a real leader and I am happy to have him in the team, like our other senior pros.
"They know they have to step up and that's what they've done in pre-season, with the support of Ash and Duffy as well. We have a group of senior players who like to work but who set the standards as well which makes it good for me as a manager.
Gabriel Sara and Jacob Sørensen were not included in today's travelling squad, with short-term injuries keeping them rested.
"Lungi had some groin problems, which is why we rested him today but he will be back in training on Friday when we go to Austria.
"Gabby was a decision which we made very late. We thought to ourselves does it make sense to give him 15 minutes of the game today or do we make it a double session today and we decided on the double session. He will go with us to Austria and will train with the team and if everything goes to plan he will play against Toulouse."
Summarising his thoughts on the work so far in the training camps, Wagner said: "It's pre-season, we have some work to do, we have made good steps so far. I hope that every one stays healthy, which is the most important thing and everything I've seen so far has given me the belief trust and confident to move forward to."
