Head coach David Wagner says that his Norwich City side are showing steps in the right direction, following their 1-0 victory over SV Darmstadt in pre-season.
Marcelino Núñez's first-half goal was the difference between the sides on a night when Wagner says performance was the most important aspect.
As I said in the past, forget the result," he told Canaries TV.
"Pre-season games are not only about the result, it’s nice to win of course, you always like to win.
"The most important thing is that everybody is healthy, that’s the case today, and show them steps in the right direction in terms of your performance, show commitment and determination, that we’ve set our standard high. That’s that the players have done, it was a good test, a good environment."
Wagner's side have won two of their three pre-season friendlies this month, also drawing 1-1 in their first outing with Barnet.
"I’ve seen good things, I’ve seen a lot of space for improvement as well. We have another four and a half weeks to go, we have to work hard in pre-season tactically and physically.
"Today, we were able to give players more than only 45 minutes. That was our idea and will be our idea on Saturday as well. I’ve seen the first steps performance-wise and from the tactical point of view, we are in the right direction."
He also re-emphasised that every player in the squad is being given the opportunity to shine during this window with players returning from injury or loan having a first chance to play for the head coach who joined the club in January.
"I like to see all the players, to make a better picture. Jonny Rowe looks like a new signing, (Przemysław) Płacheta looks like a new signing.
"Tony Springett is a player I haven’t seen a lot, Christos Tzolis came back in a totally different shape.
"Everybody has a chance, make sure you put me under pressure with assists, with goals, and with a performance as well."
