Norwich City Women were beaten 4-0 by Tier 3 side Burnley Women, confirming their exit from the Adobe Women's FA Cup.
Club captain Sarah Quantrill returned to the starting line-up for the first time in the 2025/26 campaign following a broken thumb injury sustained in pre-season.
City's first attack was a well-worked play started by Evie Williams, who pushed the Canaries forward and tried to pick out Freya Symonds heading goalwards but Burnley stopper Kirstie Levell was a match for the danger.
After Quantrill initially made a great block to deny Charlie Chadwick, the forward latched onto the loose ball in the area and fired home inside 10 minutes for the opener.
A free-kick taken by Lara Densley deep inside Burnley’s half was caught by Hope Strauss who rose highest, but her effort fell wide.
After a failed clearance from City, Burnley’s Alethea Paul was able to send a shot on target and find the back of the net for their second after 16 minutes played.
Quantrill was forced into making a fantastic save to tip a shot on target over the bar to deny the hosts a third shortly after.
Issy Moore's quick thinking allowed her to intercept a Burnley press, giving Symonds time to start an attack and Daviss eventually crossing into the box but unable to find a yellow shirt.
A looping free-kick from Symonds then forced Levell to tip away from goal for a City throw-in.
The hosts then made it three in the 37th minute, Emma Sidall breaking free down the right and smashing a shot in off the bar.
A curling strike from Densley was only inches wide of a consolation goal for City just before the break.
City thought they had pulled one back with 57 minutes played after a brilliant ball in from Evie Williams was picked up by Symonds and slotted to Daviss, who fired home from inside the area but was flagged for offside.
Burnley continued to put pressure on Norwich's backline, an effort from Paul hitting the side netting on the hour mark.
Substitute Danielle Maxwell made an immediate impact for the home side, sending the ball across the face of goal for another dangerous Burnley attack, but no Claret shirt could get on the end of it.
There was a fourth goal for Burnley with just over 10 minutes to play, substitute Aimee Kelly getting on the scoresheet with a low shot from the edge of the area.
City then hit the post in an immediate response to the goal, Daviss inches away from finding a goal for the Canaries.
The final push from either side came from Burnley, Quantrill making a double save to deny the hosts from extending the lead.
Andy Cook's side are back in league action on Sunday, November 30, when they travel to Cambridge United
