Natasha Snelling was on the scoresheet for the Canaries in a 2-1 loss against Southern Premier side Gwalia United on Sunday afternoon.

The tie was played at the neutral venue of Warwick University in a 2pm kick-off.

The Welsh side started with plenty of the possession, initially forcing the Canaries to play deep inside their own half.

New signing Evie Williams was successful in her second attempt at playing the ball across the face of goal, this time finding Snelling in the area who was able to coolly slot home the opener with 15 minutes played.

Ellie Bishop battled hard to get the ball to Lauren Hailes playing on the right, the midfielder getting a powerful cross in but only finding the hands of Gwalia's stopper Tia Asker.

United then increased the pressure on City, getting a shot off from distance that forced Sarah Quantrill into action with a strong save.

Two long throws from substitute Olivia Cook allowed Eloise King and Snelling efforts at goal, but neither could extend the lead any further.

With five minutes to play of the half, Gwalia levelled things up through Daisy Ackerman, the full-back's shot taking a deflection off Ceri Flye and evading Sarah Quantrill.

Early into the second half, United were awarded a penalty for a handball in the box from Bishop.

Beth McGown stepped up and sent substitute Holly Mears the wrong way to put Gwalia in front for the first time.

Shortly after City were down to 10 as Millie Daviss was shown a red card for a foul on the last player in a Gwalia attack.

Ackerman had the chance to extend their lead from a corner but headed just wide with 10 left to play.

With four minutes remaining on the clock, City had the opportunity to find an equaliser when Hope Strauss stepped up for a free-kick but the centre-back fired just wide.

City are back in action on Thursday, July 24, in a 7.45pm kick-off against Wroxham at Trafford Park. Get your tickets here.
