Norwich City Women move into the next round of the FAWNL Plate after beating Northampton Town Women 2-0 on the road.
After a goalless first half, Lara Densley opened the scoring shortly after the break and Grace Riglar netted a second with 20 minutes left on the clock.
Densley had the first shot at goal after a spell of City possession, but the forward was unable to get Holly Kennard's pass under control to find the target.
It wasn't until the 10th minute that Holly Mears was called into action, the City stopper required to make a fantastic double save from close-range, before a third strike for Northampton was blocked and cleared by Hope Strauss.
An effort from Natasha Snelling, well set-up by Densley, was fired just high of the Town bar with 15 minutes of the tie played.
Northampton's Jemima Footitt then nodded a header from a free-kick narrowly wide of Mears' post shortly after.
Issy Moore was next to take a strike at goal but she saw her effort drag inches wide of the target.
The Canaries did have the ball in the back of the net just after the half-hour mark but Riglar was deemed to have fouled goalkeeper Katie McLean in the build-up to her goal.
The final action before the break saw Moore's brilliant work-rate produce a great run down the left, where she found Kennard to cross into the box, but McLean was able to snatch the ball away from the feet of Snelling.
City started the second half initially under pressure from the Cobblers, but soon found their stride and subsequently the opener.
A lovely ball through from Snelling on the break reached Densley, who continued the drive forward and coolly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.
A Town free-kick that took a deflection required Mears to make another important save, the City stopper getting a fingertip to an effort on target, preventing a swift equaliser for the hosts.
The lead was then extended for Andy Cook’s side as Snelling and Densley fired consecutive shots at goal only to be denied by McLean, but Riglar collected the loose ball and slotted home for City’s second with 20 minutes to go.
Densley was agonisingly close to another in the dying minutes of the game, but her effort fell just wide of McLean’s left post.
Substitute Freya Symonds took an opportunity to go for goal from distance and was only denied by a low dive from McLean.
City continued to push for a third but could be satisfied with the two-goal cushion at full-time.
The win means the Canaries are into the second round of the FAWNL Plate, with the draw taking place on Monday from 7.15pm.
