Norwich City Women suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Tier 3 side Real Bedford Women in their second FAWNL League Cup group stage tie.
A goal in each half from the hosts secured victory, leaving City third in Group L of the competition.
Andy Cook made eight changes to the side that faced Fulham at Craven Cottage last week; only Holly Mears, Grace Riglar and Ellie Bishop remaining in the starting 11.
In the early stages of the game, Drew Wilson made a driving run down the left to slot a ball goalwards, but Nina Meollo was there to block and give City a corner.
Lauren Hailes stood over the resulting set-piece, floating a ball high into the path of Eloise Hall whose header was blocked.
An effort from Lucy Wood was fired straight into the hands of Mears for the hosts' first chance of the game.
Despite Mears making a strong stop with her feet from close range, Real Bedford took the lead in the 24th minute through Chloe Logie, after City were unable to clear the danger in the box.
After stealing possession deep in Real Bedford's half, Lara Densley was able to get into a good position to shoot just inside the area but fired her effort narrowly high.
In an attack for the Pirates, Abbie Bensted had a go from 25 yards out but the number 10 struck her effort too high.
Norwich came out after the break looking dangerous and continued to press Real Bedford high up the pitch.
Grace Riglar managed to hit the bar after some hard work from substitute Millie Daviss to keep the ball in play.
Immediately on the counter attack, Real Bedford's Logie had the chance to extend their lead but she could only smash an effort wide of the post in a one-on-one with Mears.
A strong strike from Hailes forced Meollo into action but, despite the effort being on target, the Bedford stopper was there to catch.
One of Olivia Cook's signature long throws allowed Freya Symonds to get a header on target but Meollo was there to collect again.
The hosts eventually sealed the win with just one minute of normal time left on the clock.
A ball in from Breon Grant wasn't dealt with by Norwich, allowing Issy Bryant to smash home Real Bedford's second.
Despite persistent attacks from City, they were unable to find a breakthrough on the day.
City are next in action next Sunday at Carrow Road in a Division One South East fixture against Luton Town.
