This month we welcome Steven Watson to Carrow Road as our Community Hero for August.
Nominated for his incredible 50 years of Crown service, he has careers in the Royal Navy, fire service and currently the ambulance service.
Starting his journey at age 16 on February 3, 1976, Steven embarked on a trip to Plymouth to join the submarine sector of the Royal Navy at HMS Raleigh.
He returned to Norwich in 1984 to join the fire service and in June 2005 switched to the East Of England Ambulance Service.
On why he decided to join the navy, he said: "It was more of a spur the moment decision!
"I'd never travelled before and thought Plymouth was just down the road from home. I'd never been out of Norwich."
Not only did the community hero fight in the Falklands War before joining the fire service for 22 years, Steven was called to ground zero after the 9/11 attacks in New York.
Following 21 years in the ambulance service, he is also now a specialist in dealing with and communicating with patients who are ex-forces and spends time at The Nest once a week with like-minded former veterans and Norwich City supporters.
Steven has also been back at Carrow Road over the years, working for the ambulance service on matchdays.
Now 67, our hero was honoured to be recognised for his, still ongoing, career by the club and said: "I was just gobsmacked and astounded when I heard about it.
"I really couldn't be more grateful!
"I just like to help and support people, whether they're a neighbour, a friend or a stranger."
Fellow Royal Naval Association member, Neil Hall, said: "I nominated Steven for his remarkable years of service to the country across the Royal Navy, Fire Service and Ambulance Service.
"Few people can match that level of commitment and it speaks volumes about the dedicated, generous and hardworking man I am proud to call my friend.
"Congratulations, shipmate. I hope you enjoy your special day."
