Norwich City first-team goalkeepers

The club’s academy goalkeeping department hosted a Goalkeeper Day for the Under 9 to Under 16 age group at the training ground and UEA last month.

The day allowed the goalkeepers to experience all aspects of being a full-time player, giving them an insight into the goalkeeping programme and how it operates across all age groups, right through to the first team.

It began with a training session led by the Under-18s and Under-21s, before the group had the opportunity to observe first-team training. Vladan Kovačević, Daniel Grimshaw and Caleb Ansen took part in the session, led by Ricardo Pereira and Declan Rudd.

In addition to this the goalkeepers were delivered two workshops by the club's academy psychologist, Sam Thomas and nutritionist, Luis Murphy.

Following training, first-team staff and players joined the group for a Q&A, giving the young goalkeepers the chance to ask questions and learn more about life at the highest level.

The day concluded with a trip to UEA Sportspark, where the participants took part in a badminton session.

on the event, cademy goalkeeping coach, Jake Jessup, said: "We feel it’s a great opportunity to get all of the goalkeepers together in one space for a whole day and utilise the specialist practitioners who can give expert knowledge.

"Hopefully this will help mould them as young people and footballers for the future, whilst also exposing them to the first team goalkeepers on more of a personal level to allow them to gain inspiration from them.

"As well as this, introducing different sports allows us to disguise goalkeeping movements and actions whilst they can simply be kids, having fun with each other through competition."
