Norwich City will travel to Cardiff for their second-round tie in the Carabao Cup, following their 4-1 win over MK Dons in the first round.
Opposition
Having been promoted to the Sky Bet Championship from League One, Cardiff City have had back-to-back draws in their opening two games of the 2026/27 league season.
The Bluebirds secured automatic promotion in 2025/26, sitting comfortably in second place, 14 points ahead of Stockport County.
Cardiff City have added six new players to their squad during this summer’s transfer window including attacking midfielder Jack Moylan from League One champions Lincoln City. Moylan was named in the division’s team of the season last term.
Cardiff City arrive in the second round of the Carabao Cup after securing a 3-2 win over Swindon Town in round one. Yousef Salech opened the scoring for Cardiff City from the penalty spot. Salech went on to score a second after he converted a cross from Ashford to put the Bluebirds 2-1 up at half-time.
Moylan scored the decisive goal on his debut, firing into the top-right corner after Salech rolled the ball into his path on the edge of the box.
Following his performance in the opening round Yousef Salech was awarded the Player of the Round for the first round of the Carabao Cup.
Last Time We Met
The Canaries last faced the Bluebirds in their final match of the 2024/25 Sky Bet Championship. Norwich ended their season with a 4-2 win at Carrow Road. Marcelino Núñez opened the scoring for Norwich with a side-footed effort in the 13th minute.
The visitors went down to 10 men just three minutes after conceding, as Calum Chambers was sent off for a challenge on Josh Sargent. Núñez brilliantly found the top corner from the resulting free-kick.
Borja Sainz confidently made it three, sliding the ball into the far corner to give the Canaries a 3-0 lead at half-time.
Cardiff City were awarded a penalty 11 minutes into the second half, resulting in Yousef Salech pulling one back for Cardiff City.
With 67 minutes on the clock, Jacob Wright’s corner found Shane Duffy, who headed past Ethan Horvath to make it four for Norwich.
Salech scored his second in the 84th minute.
Connections
Many players have played for both the Canaries and Bluebirds, notably Cameron Jerome.
Jerome made his professional debut for Cardiff City in October 2004, scoring his first professional goal in just his second appearance in a league cup tie against Bournemouth.
He went on to make 73 appearances, scoring 24 goals in his two seasons for the Bluebirds. He finished as Cardiff City’s top goalscorer in the 2005/06 season.
Jerome joined Norwich City in August 2014. His first goal for the club was against his former side, Cardiff City, in Norwich’s 4-2 victory away from home. Norwich came from two behind, scoring all four of their goals in the second half, with Jerome’s being the fourth.
Cameron Jerome famously opened the scoring in Norwich’s 2015 play-off final victory against Middlesbrough. Goals from Jerome and Nathan Redmond saw Norwich bounce straight back to the Premier League after one season away. Jerome was named man of the match on that famous day at Wembley.
Shot-stopper David Marshall is another player to have played for both sides.
Marshall initially joined Norwich City on loan from Celtic in January 2007 before signing a three-year contract in July 2007. During the 2007/08 season, the number one was the only Canary to play every minute of every game.
After three seasons with the Canaries, Marshall signed for Cardiff City in May 2009. He stayed with the Bluebirds for four-and-a-half years.
Josh Murphy, Robert Earnshaw, Roger Gibbins, and Anthony Pilkington have also represented both sides.
