Norwich City begin their 2026/27 Sky Bet Championship campaign on Saturday afternoon with a visit from West Bromwich Albion.
The tie will take place in a 3pm kick-off at Carrow Road.
Philippe Clement's side go into the match off the back of a 4-1 win over MK Dons in the first round of the Carabao Cup last week.
The Opposition
West Brom make the trip from the West Midlands following their own 4-1 victory in the cup, having beaten League One side Rotherham United away from home to open their 2026/27 season.
The Baggies will be hoping for a season much improved on last, having only escaped relegation by four points.
Despite a difficult season overall, manager James Morrison helped his side to a 10-game unbeaten streak in the closing weeks of the campaign, ultimately guiding them to safety.
Saturday's opposition had a successful pre-season over the summer, winning all four of their fixtures against Sheffield Wednesday, Bromley, Shrewsbury and Peterborough.
Morrison has made five new additions to his squad since the close of last season, most recently signing Rabby Nzingoula from Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.
Last Time We Met
These two sides were last in action during the fourth round of the FA Cup back in February this year, with the Canaries victorious on the night.
Paris Maghoma opened the scoring at Carrow Road in the 31st minute but Josh Maja put the visitors level with 20 minutes to play.
A wonderful strike from Ben Chrisene had City back in front and the win was sealed in the 93rd minute by Mohamed Touré.
Connections
Current Canary Sam Field could be in action against his former club this weekend, having spent five years in the senior team of his boyhood club after graduating from the Baggies' academy in 2016. He made 34 appearances for the club and scored two goals.
During his time with Aston Villa, Lewis Dobbin had spent the 2024/25 season on loan at both West Brom and Norwich City, spending the first half of the season with the Baggies and joining up with the Canaries in January.
Scotsman Robert Snodgrass also spent time with both sides, spending two years in Norfolk from 2012 to 2014. Many Canaries fans will remember his time at the club fondly, as he helped his side to a successful 11th placed finish in the Premier League during his debut season. He joined the Baggies in January 2021 before announcing his retirement three years later.
Of course, we can't forget club legend Wes Hoolahan, who spent a decade building a legacy with Norwich City. Hoolahan saw three promotions in 323 appearances and scored 47 goals for the club. He was crowned Player of the Season during the 2016/17 campaign. Hoolahan left the Canaries to join West Brom on a short-term deal in September 2018, before signing a contract until the conclusion of the 2018/19 campaign.
Other former Yellows who have played for both sides include Leon Barnett, Robert Earnshaw, Jacob Murphy, Jordan Hugill, Robert Earnshaw and Youssouf Mulumbu.
