Match Preview | Swansea City (A)

Swansea City

Following a 20-day international break hiatus, Philippe Clement's side return to action on Saturday, October 10 (12.30pm KO) as they make the trip to Swansea City.

The Canaries will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing afternoon at Carrow Road in their final fixture before the break, facing the Sky Bet Championship's early pace setters.

The Opposition

Vítor Matos is quickly establishing himself as one of the Championship's most promising managerial prospects after guiding Swansea City to the top of the table early in the season.

The 38-year-old spent four and a half years working alongside Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool before taking charge at Swansea, and has overseen the club's rise to the summit during his first full season in charge. Matos guided the Swans to an 11th-placed finish last season.

Swansea will be aiming to return to the top flight following an eight-year absence from English football's elite and have made an impressive start to the campaign, winning five of their opening eight league games and suffering just one defeat, against Southampton.

The Swans' latest Championship outing came against Lincoln City, where Stephen Eustaquio's 53rd-minute goal completed a comeback victory.

Matos' side had fallen behind to Reeco Hackett's 39th-minute penalty, but responded after the break with a four-minute double from Moussa Kounfolo Yeo before Eustaquio sealed all three points.

Previous Encounters

City will be looking to end a four-year wait for victory at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday, having last tasted success in South Wales when Teemu Pukki's first-minute goal secured three points for the Canaries in 2022.

The most recent meeting in Wales ended in defeat, with Žan Vipotnik scoring twice either side of Jovon Makama's goal to seal victory for the hosts. The two sides then shared the spoils in the reverse fixture on the penultimate game of last season, with Vipotnik once again finding the net before his opener was cancelled out by Kenny McLean seven minutes from time.

City's most memorable recent victory in Swansea came in 2018, as Daniel Farke's side continued their march towards the Championship title.

Teemu Pukki's low cross was turned into his own net by Mike van der Hoorn after just 15 minutes, before Emi Buendía doubled the Canaries' advantage eight minutes later after robbing Bersant Celina on the edge of the Swansea area.

Marco Stiepermann all but sealed the points before half-time, arriving late into the area to convert Max Aarons' teasing low cross.

Architect turned goalscorer, Pukki then completed the scoring on the hour mark, turning neatly inside the area before slotting past Erwin Mulder to make it 4-1.

Connections

Harry Darling could be set to face off against his former side on Saturday, having joined the Canaries following the expiration of his contract at Swansea last summer. Whilst Adam Idah, who's led the line in the Swans' previous two outings, could feature against the Canaries - having donned the colours of Yellow and Green on 116 occasions.

Leroy Fer spent three years in South Wales between 2015-18, following his sole season at Carrow Road in 2013/14.

Cult-hero Leroy Lita, who scored seven goals in a short loan spell at Carrow Road joined the Swansea ahead of their debut Premier League campaign in 2011, however only went onto to feature for the Swans on 18 occasions, scoring twice.

Having spent nine years in Norfolk, making 309 appearances, Russel Martin became head coach of Swansea City in his second managerial roll after being poached from MK Dons. The Scot went onto manage in South Wales on 99 occasions before leaving for Southampton in 2023.
