Norwich City rounded off their London training camp with an impressive 2-0 victory against Premier League side Fulham at Motspur Park on Saturday afternoon.
In what was a closely contested affair, Philippe Clement’s side more than matched Fulham, who were taking to the field for the first time under new boss Álvaro Arbeloa.
Goals from the returning Anis Ben Slimane and Harry Darling were decisive on a sunny and warm afternoon in south-west London.
A strong City line-up took to the field against the Premier League opposition, with José Córdoba, Kenny McLean and Slimane in from the off following their respective FIFA World Cup adventures.
Inside the opening five minutes, Slimane fired into the side netting following a swift breakaway move involving Oscar Schwartau and Mathias Kvistgaarden.
On 19 minutes City broke the deadlock.
Kvistgaarden’s pressure paid dividends deep in Fulham territory. The Dane, having won possession of the ball, squared to Slimane, who converted from six yards out.
Matěj Jurásek then went close with half time approaching. City once again won the ball high in Fulham territory, with the Czech winger sent clear by Slimane, only to see his dinked effort repelled by Bernd Leno.
The hosts rang the changes at the interval, but City continued to look the more threatening.
Kvistgaarden forced a smart low save from Benjamin Lecomte in the early stages of the second period.
Vladan Kovačević was forced into his first moment of notable action just prior to the hour mark, reacting well at his near post to turn behind a deflected Ryan Sessegnon shot.
As the game reached its final throes, City doubled their lead from a well worked corner kick routine.
Jacob Wright flighted the set piece to the back post, where an unmarked Dylan Jones headed back across goal leaving Darling with a simple head into an empty net.
Late on City almost added a third, when Jones was sent in the clear by Maghoma, only for his shot to roll beyond the far post.
In the end, it was an accomplished and impressive performance from Clement’s side, with focus now shifting to City’s penultimate pre-season friendly against CA Osasuna at Carrow Road.
