Norwich City came out on the wrong side of seven goals following a topsy-turvy game against Bolton Wanderers at Carrow Road.
The Canaries were twice in front in the first half through goals from Mohamed Touré and Ruairi McConville but were twice pegged back by a persistent and battling away side.
Wanderers were in front early in the second half through Sam Dalby, with Jack Stacey then levelling for the home side.
But with the game in the balance substitute Atsuki Ito fired in what proved to be the winning goal, on what was a disappointing afternoon in NR1.
Norwich City got off to a flying start and were in front after just five minutes.
A pass from Andre Brooks found Touré, who from just outside of the penalty area lashed the ball into the roof of the Bolton Wanderers net, beyond Gavin Bazunu.
But the Bolton responded quickly and levelled shortly after.
Gale cut infield from the left flank, before firing a fierce low shot in at the near post.
It was an end-to-end start to the game, with both sides pushing bodies forward.
Norwich City did have the ball in the net again on ten minutes, only for Touré’s close range finish to be ruled offside, following Ben Chrisene’s cross. The Canaries left-back had just crept beyond the Bolton backline before firing a dangerous ball into the path of Touré.
The Canaries were then dealt a blow, with Touré forced off with what looked to be shoulder injury following a coming together with an opposing defender. Jovon Makama came on in his place.
But cheers rang around Carrow Road again on 20 minutes, as the Canaries took the lead once more.
An in-swinging corner delivery from Oscar Schwartau was met at the back post by a towering McConville, who headed home via the post.
But once again the visitors responded.
Kyliane Dong sent a rasping drive over the bar from range, before on the stroke of half time the scores were once again level.
Max Conway escaped to the left byline, with his cross eventually landing at the feet of Gaizka Larrazabal, whose first time strike from 25 yards fizzed into the net via a deflection.
Sam Dalby gave the visitors the lead two minutes into the second half. Dalby fired a strike from the left side of the box into the right-hand side of the goal
Clement then introduced Jacob Wright and one-time Bolton loanee Paris Maghoma from the bench, with the latter having an immediate impact.
Maghoma assumed possession midway inside Bolton territory, before threading a pinpoint pass through a ruck of defenders and into the path of Stacey. The full-back steadied himself before firing across goal and into the far corner of the net via the post.
The game was once again level, but with momentum and possession very much in favour of the home side.
That said, Bolton did continue to threaten on the break. Kovačević was alert to fly to his left to keep out a Larrazabal attempt.
Wright then saw a free kick well held by Gavin Bazunu, but the energy and belief in chasing all three points was sucked out of the Carrow Road crowd on 74 minutes.
Wanderers sub Ito wriggled into a pocket of space on the edge of the area before firing low into the bottom corner.
The Canaries threw men forward late on in search of another equaliser, but in the end there were no further goalscoring opportunities on what ultimately proved to be a frustrating afternoon.
