On Monday afternoon all at Norwich City Football Club were heartbroken to learn of the passing of honorary life president Michael Wynn Jones.
As a mark of respect to Michael, flags at Carrow Road were lowered to half-mast on Monday afternoon.
First and foremost, Michael was a Norwich City supporter at heart, and we understand that this will be incredibly sad news for everyone associated with our football club.
The club will open a book of condolence, in which supporters will be able to write their own personal tribute to Michael. This will be located in the Lion & Castle at Carrow Road, which will open at midday on Tuesday.
At the request of the family, the bar will be open in the Lion & Castle for supporters to raise a glass in Michael’s memory. All proceeds from drinks purchased will be donated to St Elizabeth Hospice.
In order to allow supporters time to pay their tributes and respects to Michael, as well as sign the book of condolence, the Lion & Castle will remain open for the remainder of the week – Tuesday (midday-9pm), Wednesday (9am-9pm), Thursday (9am-9pm) and Friday (9am-midday).
On Saturday (9am-5pm) and Sunday (9am-5pm) the book of condolence will then be available to sign in the South Stand reception at Carrow Road.
For supporters driving and parking at Carrow Road, the club will ensure supporters are not charged to park their vehicles.
At the request of the family, we ask that their privacy be respected at this sad time as they mourn the passing of their loved one.
Over the coming period, the club will work with the family on a permanent tribute to Michael’s life and legacy at Carrow Road, as well as a tribute prior to one of the club’s upcoming home fixtures.
Donations in Michael’s memory may also be made to St Elizabeth Hospice here in lieu of flowers.
