Reaction | Clement: A complete team performance

Clement post match cele

Philippe Clement labelled his side’s convincing 4-0 away victory at Derby County on Tuesday evening a complete team performance.

The Canaries blew the home side away with first-half goals from Anthony Musaba, Paris Maghoma and Darlin Yongwa. Substitute Jovon Makama completed the rout, on what was an impressive display in front of nearly 1,700 travelling supporters.

And in his media after the game, Clement spoke of his delight at both a clean sheet and a ruthlessness in front of goal.

He said: “The team did what we wanted to do tonight. That’s the most important thing. We were dominant on the ball and controlled the game. We were firm in the duels, which was important, as Derby have a really physical and strong team.

“This league is relentless in the duels, the long throws ins and the physical battles. It’s an important part of the game, but we also want to play our football, so it has to be a combination of both.

“There is potential in this team, in the attacking areas. For sure, we can do things better and more efficient in the attacking areas, but we always try to play attacking football against each opponent. We’re not a team that only wants to defend.

“I’m of course pleased with the clean sheet today. We want to play attacking football, but out of a structure that doesn’t give away chances and today we showed a lot of good things around that.

“I want clean sheets and we know we can score goals going forward at any time. It has been a big working point in recent weeks and month. Sometimes you also need a bit of luck. Grimmy made a big save tonight in the second half, which was important for this clean sheet.

“We also worked really hard following the Bolton game on our attacking players doing the defensive work all of the time. They made big steps in this area and we are now starting to become a more complete team.”

It was a third consecutive victory for City, and with an away trip to Bristol City coming up Clement is hoping to give the travelling Norwich City supporters more reason to cheer heading into the international break.

He concluded: “I’m really happy for the away fans. At all of our away games they’ve been really supportive, even when we have gone behind, like at Charlton recently.

“Those are the die-hard fans, making the trips up and down the country and we want to give them something to be proud of. We had some moments last season and this, and we all want more of that. The joy of the fans on nights like this, you can really feel it in the dressing room.”
