Reaction | Clement: Positives to take but it's about results

Philippe Clement claps the fans at Carrow Road

Despite identifying encouraging aspects of Wednesday evening's defeat, Norwich City head coach Philippe Clement acknowledged that results remain the priority.

“We're very frustrated because it was against small margins and I saw a team that gave everything, for at least 70 minutes.

“I expected more when we made the changes and we need more from them in the weeks and months to come, but for 70 minutes, we played a good game and we created enough chances to score more goals.

“We didn't give away much; it was a good structure and good organisation against a good team.

“So, a lot of positives to take about that, but in the end, it's about results.

“We all know that, so, everybody is disappointed about tonight, of course.”

"Everybody who saw the game today will say that it was an equal game and both teams went toe-to-toe.

“It's disappointing not to get any points, but it would be much more disappointing if Southampton totally smashed us today - then you can start to panic.

“The team has been working hard and things are not falling our way, so we need to push that luck.

“We have another chance to make things right on Saturday, where the team needs to show the same mentality and structure, not to return to the chaotic football that we played against Bolton to force a result.

“We need to keep on playing like a team and then the points will follow.

"'The easy thing is to give up or to feel sorry for yourself.

“We need players who step up, who get fuel out of the disappointment and level up in the next game because they have more rhythm.

“We need to build further like that, like we did last season, where I think the team was in a much worse state than it is now.

“We could not play this kind of game in the beginning when I stepped into the building.”

Vladan Kovačević was ruled out of today’s tie with a concussion he picked up against Swansea City last weekend. The city head coach confirmed it is unlikely he will return this weekend.

“Daniel Grimshaw played a good game and did what he had to do for the team.

“I expect probably more of the same from him on Saturday again.”

On the absent Kellen Fisher, Clement confirmed he had picked up a knock whilst with England Under-21s on international duty.

"He had an injury with his back, got treatment for a week or so in the club and initially fel better, so trained a few times and got himself back on the bench, but felt it again.

“So, we took a scan today and it doesn't look like a long-term thing, but it's something that needs to be treated now and then we will see when he can step back into the team.”
