Reflecting on Saturday's defeat at home to West Brom, Harry Darling said this Norwich City side had more to give and the result would hurt for now.
"That was disappointing, we didn't want to start in that manner.
"We've had a lot of chances in the game, but ultimately we've conceded two and the game ran away from us.
"I don't want to say too much because I think I'll get in trouble, but I think everyone can see from the video and the pictures that first one shouldn't have counted, so that is disappointing.
"I think we had a lot of chances, but the goals were poor, especially from myself for the second one.
"I don't think the performance was bad but obviously it hurts for now because we don't want to start the season in that way, no one does.
"When we look back at the game and how we played, it's not a bad performance, we just need to put those chances away and it's only the first game.
"It's a very long season, so we'll get back to work and hopefully put it right next week.
"We definitely should have got something from the game and if we scored earlier, it could have been completely different.
"I'm happy the gaffer has trusted me to play but I'm not too happy the way the second goal went in, but that's football; I'll look back and learn from it.
"There's a lot of competition which is only a good thing as it helps us push on and that competition of places is good for a squad.
"I think, despite the goals, fans could see the way we played and how many chances we did have.
"The supporters were brilliant all last season, even at the start when things weren't right, they stuck with us.
"The fans are brilliant."
