Pelle Mattsson described the visit to Swansea as disappointing on Norwich’s their return after the international break.

In absence of the injured Kenny McLean, the Dane was called up as captain for Norwich City’s 2-1 defeat at Swansea.

"Today, I think the first half was a good half. I think the performance was how we wanted it and then the second half we dropped, and we can't switch off and just leave it.

“Then we conceded two and I think in the end we're close to maybe get a point, but it was not enough today."

The Canaries found the breakthrough and led 1-0 going into the break. Mattsson said the message from head coach Philippe Clement was “to do the same” as the first half and “not be of scared for the second-half, even though we're leading the game.”

“But we did the opposite, sat back and there was not enough intensity without the ball, and then we conceded two quite quick.

"So yes, disappointing."

Pelle believes the team’s second half performance was not good enough and they lacked putting pressure on the opponents.

“The start of the second-half wasn't good enough.

“We lost the ball, but I think maybe the pressure wasn't good enough.

“They had the ball in our half and we didn't really press them enough."

Mattsson was praised for his performance on the pitch today, but the midfielder shared that his focus remains on the team.

"I don't think too much about my own performance right after a loss.

“I try to keep control of the middle with my partner in there and I think Jacob [Wright] and I think we did okay, but when we lose, it's not good."

Prior to the Canaries' trip to Swansea, Philippe Clement shared that there had been extensive meetings and analysis addressing performances before the international break.

The captain admitted there were additional lessons to be learnt from today ahead of Norwich’s two fixtures at Carrow Road next week.

“I think we fixed some of our issues from the previous games, with being a bit more compact in our block.

“Then we switched off for 15 or 20 minutes and we concede two, so we can't do that in this game and you just have to stay in control and focus all 90 minutes.

“I know it's easy to say, but we didn't do that today, so we just need to keep focus all day."

Despite the disappointing result, Mattsson does not think the team’s mentality is a concern.

“I think we're pretty good mentally.

"I know we've been suffering a bit out there the last couple of games, but we have a really strong group of players and staff around us.

“We talk things through and I think we're pretty strong mentally.

“I think we bounced back in the first half after our previous bad performances, you can say that.

"I know we just had a loss but the only way we can continue to grow is by sticking together.

“It was nice to see a lot of fans today, it always is and they showed their support all the way until the end."
