Rauri McConville admitted Norwich City must quickly address their defensive shortcomings after Sunday's 4-3 defeat to Bolton Wanderers at Carrow Road.
The defender scored his first senior goal to put the Canaries 2-1 in front, but City ultimately suffered a second successive Championship defeat before the international break.
“I'm very disappointed,” McConville said. “It's not good enough, that's all I can really say.
“We concede four goals at home, off the back of conceding four last week, so it clearly shows we haven't learned our lesson.
“If we want to achieve the things we want to achieve, then it's so far from good enough. It's embarrassing, really.
“We've got to take the international break to regroup and work on things because it can't continue the way it's going.”
McConville believes Norwich need to improve their work in both first contacts and second balls.
“If you look at the goals, we lose first contacts and we don't fall on second balls,” he said. “We let people have shots. We don't get blocks in.
“The fourth goal I run out of the way of. It's just terrible defending all over, to be honest, and it's not good enough to compete in the league.
“We have to look in the mirror and look at ourselves and really change things quickly, because every game is a tough game in this league.”
Despite scoring three goals for the second consecutive league match, Norwich again came away with nothing.
“We know the quality we have in the group and we know in every single game we can score goals,” McConville said.
“That's what's so disappointing, that we scored three goals again two weeks in a row and we're losing both games.
“The break has maybe come at a good time and we have to just work on the things, because the goals are just far too easy.”
The centre back accepts Norwich have not started the season as they would have wanted, but believes there is plenty of time to put things right.
“It's a long season and we know that we haven't started well at all,” he said. “The performances recently haven't been good enough, but it's a long season. There's still so many games left.
“Everyone knows that we all play a part in and, losing, we lose as a team. So we just have to go back on the training pitch and work on things.”
The defender says the players who remain at the club during the international break will have an opportunity to push for places.
“There's so many boys that are still here,” he said. “There's boys that maybe aren't playing that have an opportunity now to get in the team.
“If you look at that, no one deserves to keep their place after that, because it's not good enough.
“There'll be people ready to fight and ready to come into the team, and that's what we need. We need competition and we need boys who are ready to come in and change what's happening on the pitch.”
McConville's first senior goal was one of the few personal positives from a frustrating afternoon, although the defender admitted it meant little in the immediate aftermath of defeat.
“I want to score goals and I know I'm capable of doing it,” he said. “It's just I've not been good enough in the box, and thankfully I got one today.
“It's something that I need to keep adding to my game, but obviously it doesn't mean much today, losing the game.
“We'll keep working along on the training pitch and try and keep adding more.”
