Anthony Musaba was delighted to mark his first Norwich City goal with a 3-1 victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, as the Canaries claimed their first away win of the season.
Musaba opened his Norwich account with a spectacular finish off the underside of the crossbar, but the winger was keen to focus on the collective performance after a hard-fought victory over the previously unbeaten Blades.
“I'm very happy that we got the three points,” Musaba said. “And then the way I scored, to have my first goal like this, it's a top first goal to score my first goal for Norwich City.
“But first, the point of the thing is the way we played. We played today as a team, we had a fight mentality and we showed already from minute one how ready we are to play this game and to win this game.
“That's what we showed and that's why we got the three points. I'm very happy about that.”
Musaba was particularly pleased to see Norwich turn their performances into a positive result after a difficult start to the campaign.
“The start wasn't that great with the group that we have, in terms of mentality and quality,” he said. “The structure will be better, but at the end, we have so many games.
“It's very good today that we got the three points, and then we continue like this and be in the place where we belong.”
The winger felt scoring early helped to settle City and gave them the confidence to continue playing on the front foot.
“This is a league where you can score very early,” he said. “You can score in the third minute, the second minute, so now we scored in eight minutes.
“It's always good to start to score very early in the game. It builds your confidence and gives away how we continue the game.
“Every chance that we had, we tried to be ruthless in front of the goal, and that's why we had three goals. It's very good that we scored early.”
Norwich were pegged back after taking an early lead, but Musaba praised the team's reaction to conceding.
“We had to battle hard, but I think we were still convinced that we knew we would win the game,” he said.
“Even when we conceded the goal, that's not what you want, but we had our heads up. That's what we showed, and the reaction afterwards was very top.
“Then we got a good goal with Mo and Enis, the combination, and from there on we just won.”
Musaba has enjoyed a positive start to life at Norwich and believes the freedom given to him by Philippe Clement has allowed him to play his natural game.
“It gives me very much freedom,” he said. “I think the coach gives a lot of freedom to the team.
“Personally, I just enjoy my game. I try to do what the coach is asking from me and try to do the best for the team as well.
“When it goes well, this is how I used to play. I'm happy that the coach is giving me this freedom and I hope to contribute a lot for the team and also for myself in this way.”
Musaba also explained why Norwich felt like the right club for him when the opportunity to join arose.
“My first chats with the club, first chats with the coach, with Ben, it just felt right,” he said.
“It just felt right for me. In terms of also knowing the league, that's bonus points for me, but I really got a good feeling from the club when I spoke to them.
“I also know what good team I would join, the potential and the project as well. That's the most important thing for me.
“I'm listening to my feeling, and Norwich City was the right club for me.”
Musaba's first goal for the Canaries was an emphatic one, his finish flying in off the underside of the crossbar.
“It was a good one to score,” he said. “It was a top goal, so I'm very happy with that as well. We should celebrate it today.”
Despite his previous time with Sheffield Wednesday, Musaba was determined to keep his emotions under control on his return to South Yorkshire.
“Honestly, I played for Sheffield Wednesday at a time,” he said. “It was reality, but I just wanted to keep it calm.
“I just wanted to play my game, score, and then go home with the win.”
Having beaten Burnley before losing at Stoke City, Musaba is already looking ahead to ensuring Saturday's victory can be the beginning of a consistent run.
“Exactly. It's about building the consistency,” he said. “Now we won, we celebrate, but then tomorrow we go recovery and focus again on the game on Wednesday against Birmingham.
“That should be the focus, to win at home as well, in front of our fans. That's the most important for now.”
