Reaction | Szczech: "We'll keep getting stronger"

Norwich City Women's Zofia Szczech felt they were good value for their point in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough.

"It was definitely competitive. I felt that in the first half we were probably more in control of the game and in the second half they came out with quite a lot of fight.

"I felt like we dealt with it well, but we probably weren't as patient as we normally are in the final third, which is maybe why they were allowed to have more momentum than they should have.

"All in all, I thought we fought well and just a lapse in concentration meant the game ended in a draw. We did well to fight back against their momentum with their home crowd as well.

"I think we've come away disappointed, but happy to keep the momentum going in the form of a draw."

City faced a physical battle in the game but once again proved they were up to the task.

"I think now that we've played quite a few of these northern teams we're definitely getting used to the physical battle. I think you have to be able to do those because with a lot of the teams in the Northern Premier Division that is their way of sort of getting under your skin.

"If you don't compete in that, you can lose the game very easily. So because we competed physically, we were able to stay in the game and still create our own chances. But we'll keep getting stronger so that we continue not to get bullied when we're away from home."

Szczech put in a strong display at both ends of the pitch and won the penalty that led to City's goal.

"I'm happy, obviously, to get my first league start for the club. I've been waiting a while, working hard behind the scenes and grateful to get my opportunity today. And I'm glad that I came out with an influence on the game, both defensively and in possession.

"I think that definitely is one of my strong suits whenever I am playing, I always want to make sure that I help out in attack and in defence so I'm glad that I got both sides of my game out today."

City to return to The Nest next Sunday after back-to-back away trips. They welcome West Bromwich Albion in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division.

"I'm very excited, obviously when you play at The Nest we get that home advantage that Middlesbrough had today. The fans are always really loud and it always helps us when we have momentum so yeah excited to play some tough fixtures at The Nest and hopefully get some more positive results in them."
