It took forward Mohamed Touré just 50 seconds into his first competitive start since returning from the World Cup to get back among the goals, as the Canaries ran out 4-1 winners against Sky Bet League One side MK Dons.
Reflecting on his goalscoring return, the forward said: “I was very happy to be back out there at our home stadium and happy to get my first goal of the season.
“We killed the game off early and we were in control for most of the game and we're just happy to progress now.
“Starting the winning way is the most important and hopefully we can take it into the first league match next week.”
The Australian international announced on Thursday that he would be switching his shirt number in tribute to his teammate and friend, Ali Ahmed, following the winger’s injury.
‘Yeah, it was amazing [to score wearing the shirt]. I felt like I felt for him when he went down last week here, I felt like I could just the smallest thing I could do for him was to weigh his number for him this season and show him that he is still a part of the squad and getting the goal I would say for him today was amazing.”
The Canaries will begin their Sky Bet Championship campaign next weekend when they welcome West Bromwich Albion to Carrow Road.
“I’m very excited. I feel like the boys have worked hard. We have a great team and a great bunch of boys and I'm excited to see what we can do this year.”
