Norwich City Under-21s suffered their first defeat in the National League Cup group stages, falling to a 5-3 loss against Aldershot Town in a frantic encounter at the EBB Stadium.
Marcus Dinanga's hat-trick helped the hosts establish a 5-1 lead midway through the second half, but goals from Elliot Myles, Toby Chilvers and Finlay Corke sparked a late fightback from a young Canaries side.
Olly Lee made three changes to the side that secured a 3-2 victory over Reading in the PL Cup on Friday night, with Under-18s duo Harry Darbyshire-Came and Jake Glossop handed opportunities, while Botan Ameen made his first start since returning from injury.
Group B's bottom side Aldershot also featured two familiar faces, with former Canaries Michee Efete and Tristan Abrahams both named in the starting XI against their former club.
After a quiet opening 15 minutes, the hosts were awarded a penalty when Hakeem Sandah was brought down inside the area.
Dinanga stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, firing into the corner to give Aldershot the lead after 17 minutes.
The hosts doubled their advantage six minutes later when former Canary Abrahams raced onto a loose ball before firing underneath Darbyshire-Came.
Dinanga struck again just two minutes later, leaving Lee's young side with an uphill task as Aldershot capitalised on a quickfire spell of goals.
City enjoyed spells of promising play as the half progressed, looking to exploit space down Ameen's side, but were unable to find a way past Shots goalkeeper Nick Hayes until three minutes before the break.
Myles provided the breakthrough, racing through on goal before showing composure to lift the ball over Hayes and give the young Canaries a foothold in the contest heading into half-time.
Lee turned to his bench at the interval, introducing Luke Chukwu in place of Ameen, and it was the Canaries who started the second half on the front foot. Finlay Corke came closest to reducing the deficit further, but couldn't convert from close range inside the six-yard box.
As City continued to push forward in search of a route back into the game, spaces began to open up at the other end. Dinanga capitalised to complete his hat-trick, firing into an unguarded net after Darbyshire-Came had produced an excellent save moments earlier.
Aldershot extended their lead further just three minutes later, with substitute Marcus Wyllie finding the net to make it 5-1. However, the young Canaries responded with two goals of their own in a spirited spell.
Chilvers struck first, arriving at the back post to turn home Chukwu's cross before Corke reduced the deficit further. Hayes failed to gather Myles' delivery, allowing the ball to bounce off Corke and into the net to make it 5-3.
Despite their late rally, City were unable to find another breakthrough as Aldershot held on to claim the victory and inflict the Canaries' first defeat in the National League Cup group stages.
Despite the result, Lee's side remain well placed in Group B, with qualification still in their hands ahead of their final group fixture against Braintree Town next month.
