Under-21s Report | Norwich 4-2 West Ham United

Elliot Myles

City's Under-21s sealed their third win of the PL2 season on Friday night, coming from behind to beat West Ham 4-2.

Luke Towler had originally given the Canaries the lead after just two minutes before being pegged back.

A brace from Elliot Myles and then Luke Towler's second confirmed the points for Olly Lee's side.

Following an 11-month injury lay-off, first-team midfielder Mirko Topić returned to action, starting in midfield alongside first-team teammates Bruno Alves and Ante Crnac as Olly Lee made three changes to the side that faced Aldershot in midweek.

City made the perfect start, taking the lead just two minutes in when Crnac’s cross deflected into the path of Towler, who blasted the ball into the roof of the net.

However, the young Canaries’ advantage lasted just seven minutes, with Cummings on hand to restore parity for the visitors.

West Ham then completed the turnaround on 20 minutes, as Jethro Medine found space to fire home from a tight angle.

City responded positively, with both Crnac and Towler going close before their pressure paid off six minutes later. Towler turned provider, cleverly picking out Elliot Myles on the edge of the area, where the attacking midfielder curled a superb effort into the net to register his fifth goal of the season.

Topić grew into the game alongside Crnac and Myles, with the trio beginning to dictate play from midfield. However, the visitors will have felt aggrieved not to have gone into the break ahead, as Cummings broke through City's defence but fired narrowly wide.

In a pre-planned change, Topić was withdrawn at half-time and replaced by Alan Domeracki.

Myles continued to threaten after the restart, beating his man before forcing Finley Hooper into an excellent save, with the West Ham goalkeeper acrobatically tipping his effort over the bar.

The attacking midfielder would not be denied for long, however, as he restored City's lead in the 67th minute. Breaking free of the West Ham defence, Myles finished brilliantly into the bottom corner to claim his second goal of the evening.

Crnac was withdrawn after 70 minutes following a lively display, with Rueben Cooper replacing him, while Botan Ameen also made way for Luke Chukwu.

City almost extended their advantage when Finlay Corke rose to meet a cross, only to see his header crash against the crossbar.

The young Canaries sealed the three points four minutes from time with Luke Towler bagging his second of the night, arriving late into the area to fire in.

Olly Lee's side were able to see out the game, confirming their third win in PL2 this campaign and in turn lifting themselves up to sixth in the table.
