"We can't feel sorry for ourselves" | Ben Chrisene post-Millwall

Ben Chrisene says there’s “no time to feel sorry for ourselves” as the Canaries were well beaten against Millwall in the capital on Saturday afternoon.

Following the result, the fullback said: “It's really disappointing to be honest. I think the way we went about pre-season was amazing.

“So then going into season we had a lot of confidence, and I think the way we started in the first two games doesn't reflect that and to be honest it's quite evident we haven't been good enough, especially in the first half.

“I don't want to say we got bullied but I think in this league you've got to be stronger when you come up against teams like that, you've got to show fight, you can't just play pretty football and expect to do well.

“I think it's eye-opening for the whole team and we've got a young squad, but that's no excuse as well.

“So we've got to just learn to play their game and do better than them.”

“There’s maybe a bit of naivety, I don't know. It's hard to tell, it's still so early. We've only played two games.

“We have no time to feel sorry for ourselves either. We've got a game Tuesday, a game Saturday and then I think another the following Tuesday.

“We've got so many games coming up that we can't think, this is how we're going to be.

"We've got a great squad, like we spoke about in pre-season and I think it's just time to utilise that and time to show that as well with grit and determination.”

The Canaries’ poor performance in London could be seen as an eye-opener, ahead of Tuesday’s game against Cardiff City.

"It's eye-opening. You've got to take these experiences and learn from it and not dwell on them as well, because I think that's the worst thing you can do as well.

“It's a humbling experience, but we'll learn from it and that's all we can do. We can't sit here and feel sorry for ourselves.

"We've got such high expectations for ourselves and the manager has and the fans have now because of the way we ended last season.

“We wanted to carry that on almost. We didn't want an off-season to happen because we were doing so well.

“I think it's just all we have to do is try to get back to that. And look, to start the season, it would be nice to hit the ground running, but it might take a few games to get there.

“We're not going to do a repeat of last season. We're going to make sure that we fight now. And it starts on Tuesday.”
