Norwich City Women returned to winning ways as they beat Luton Town 2-1 in the FAWNL Cup group stage at Sharpenhoe Road.
Millie Daviss opened the scoring in the first half before Holly Kennard doubled City's lead shortly after the half hour mark. Chloe Logie pulled one back for Luton midway through the second half.
Perry Northeast made four changes from the side that suffered a narrow defeat at Rugby Borough last Sunday. Zofia Szczech and Drew Wilson came into the defence. Issy Moore returned to the forward line while Bryony Brodie made her full City debut in midfield.
After a stop-start opening to the game, City took the lead midway through the first half through good build-up play down the right. Brodie released Niyah Dunbar in behind who cushioned the ball on for Moore in the box.
The winger fired a low cross into the box which was tucked away emphatically by Daviss at the far post for her first goal of the season.
The Canaries went close to a second when Wilson lofted a ball over the top for Moore to chase. She drove into the box, cut back onto her left foot and looked for the far bottom corner but saw her shot saved.
City extended their advantage in similar fashion to their first goal when Szczech released Moore in space down the right. She cut the ball back for Kennard who took a touch and fired a driven strike into the far bottom corner.
Luton looked to respond before the break as Emily Wilson broke in behind and beared down on goal under pressure from Natalie Johnson. She got her shot away but Eva-Jean Young rushed out to smother her strike.
Northeast's side started the second half brightly, maintaining their momentum from the first 45 to keep pressure on the host's goal.
Poppy Groves went the closest in the early stages when her low strike from a tight angle was blocked by a last ditch sliding challenge.
The hosts grew into the game and halved the deficit midway through the half. Logie producing a piece of magic as she flicked the ball up for herself on the edge of the box before firing a volley into the top left corner.
Luton piled on pressure in the late stages of the game but City held firm to see out the three points and make it two wins from two in the group stage of the FAWNL Cup.
The Canaries return to The Nest next Sunday when Boldmere St Michaels are the visitors in the FAWNL Northern Premier Division.
