Daniel Farke admitted Norwich City were far from their best in their defeat at Chelsea on Saturday.
The Canaries were put to the sword by a clinical Chelsea side, and Farke knew it was always going to be a difficult challenge for his side.
Speaking to canaries.co.uk after the match, Farke said: "It’s a tough day at the office. To concede seven goals here is unbelievably tough, especially after two clean sheets.
"We knew before the game it’s the toughest test in world football. They are the Champions League champions, they are sitting top of the league in the best league in the world. They have many wins since the international break, two clean sheet wins.
"It was clear that even if we were there with our best performance today and Chelsea were just there with a good performance, they would have won this game.
"But after this game, you have to say they were there with a top-class performance and we were far away from being at our best today.
"In all topics, we were not good enough to be competitive. We were too slow in possession, against the ball and in our decision making. We have to accept this heavy loss.
"We knew before it’s not a season defining game, there are other games where you have to win points. For a newly-promoted side, an away game at the Champions League winners is tough."
The City boss says his players won't dwell on the defeat for too long, as they want to switch their focus to the visit of Leeds United next Sunday.
"It’s important not to over-interpretate this game too much, we played an away game at Chelsea who were in top shape and who were there with a top class performance, you expect in 19 out of 20 games that you lose such a game.
"Of course, we were hoping for this one game but we are disappointed. We are not happy with it. We have to make sure we return back to clinical defending behaviour from the past games and returning back to the chances were created, particularly in the Brighton game.
"We have to make sure that we are spot on in our performance to make sure we have a chance of winning points in the next home game.
"We will allow two days to be down and embarrassed that we conceded seven goals.
"From Tuesday on, we won’t speak about this game. There will just be one topic - we want to win points in our next home game."
