Norwich City Under-21s begin their debut National League Cup campaign on Tuesday night (7pm KO) when they travel to East London to face Hornchurch at the Hornchurch Stadium.

Olly Lee’s side kick off their domestic season against familiar opposition, with the two sides having already met in pre-season last month. The spoils were shared on that occasion, with City and Hornchurch playing out a 1-1 draw at the same venue.

The National League Cup brings together 16 Premier League 2 and 16 National League clubs, with Under-21 sides given the opportunity to gain valuable experience of senior football. The group stage features four groups of eight, with each team playing four matches against opponents from the opposite league, all at National League first-team stadiums.

Matches level after 90 minutes go straight to penalties, with the shootout winner awarded a bonus point. The top two sides from each group will progress to the knockout stages, culminating in the final in March 2027.

Hornchurch, also making their debut in the competition, have made an impressive start to life in the National League. After securing promotion from the National League South last season, they have won both of their opening two fixtures, defeating Kidderminster before overcoming Barrow 2-1 in Cumbria on Saturday.

Lee’s Under-21s are yet to begin their domestic campaign, but go into Tuesday’s fixture on the back of a 1-0 victory over West Ham United Under-21s in their final pre-season outing.

The young Canaries will begin their Premier League 2 campaign next Sunday, when they travel to face Middlesbrough.
