Match Preview | Millwall v Norwich City

Millwall v Norwich (2026)

The Canaries make the trip to the capital for the 12.30pm kick-off on Saturday looking to come back from a 2-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in their first game of the 2026/27 Sky Bet Championship.

The Opposition

Millwall opened their 2026/27 campaign with a 2-0 win away from home against Bristol City, both goals coming from Josh Coburn either side of half-time after the hosts were reduced to ten men following Adam Randell's dismissal after 36 minutes.

Looking to go one step further this season following their defeat in the Championship play-offs last season having finished the season just two points behind the automatic promotion spots.

Alex Neil’s side won three of their four pre-season fixtures, drawing the other, before a successful start in their first match of the Carabao Cup. Millwall travelled across London to face fellow Championship side Queens Park Rangers, where they secured their spot in the next round after winning on penalties.

Eight new squad members have joined Millwall ahead of their 2026/27 campaign. Former Canary Danny Batth, who made 18 appearances in yellow and green throughout 2023/24 joined the Lions on a free at the start of August.

Last Time We Met

The Canaries last faced the Lions in the closing stages of the 2025/26 season, with Norwich leaving London with three points, restricting Millwall’s chances of a second-place finish.

After a goalless first half, half-time substitute Mihailo Ivanovic opened the scoring for the hosts in the 56th minute.

City promptly responded, having impressed throughout the game, with Pelle Mattsson levelling and scoring the Canaries goal of the season six minutes later with a strike from outside the edge of the area.

14 minutes later, Oscar Schwartau completed the comeback in front of 3,000 travelling fans on the road for the Canaries.

Connections

Alex Neil is the most notable connection between the two clubs, having spent more than two years in East Anglia between 2015 and 2017. During his time at the helm, he guided the Canaries to a memorable Championship play-off final victory over Middlesbrough in 2015.

The Scot went on to take charge of Preston, Sunderland and Stoke before arriving in London in 2024, where he has quickly become a firm favourite at The Den. Neil has since guided Millwall to eighth and, most recently, third-place finishes in the Championship.

Another notable connection is Steve Morison, who spent seven seasons at The Den across two spells, either side of a two-year stint at Carrow Road, scoring more than 90 goals for the Lions.

The striker joined Norwich in the summer of 2011 ahead of the Canaries’ return to the Premier League, going on to score 10 league goals across his two seasons in the top flight.

Current Millwall defender Danny Batth is another link between the two clubs, while George Long and Lewis Grabban are among those to have also represented both sides.
